The Cafe Townesend tutorials, much loved in Dreamweaver 8, have been updated for Dreamweaver CS3 by Jon Varese. You can find it in the Dreamweaver Developer Center here, starting with part 1:

This is a five part tutorial, so it’s very comprehensive and a great place to start if you’re a web designer starting to work with Dreamweaver.

If you haven’t used CSS before, but want to start taking advantage of it in Dreamweaver CS3, this is the tutorial for you. It walks you through the fundamentals you need to start styling your documents.

This is what they say:

“This tutorial is designed to introduce the concepts of using CSS in Adobe Dreamweaver and HTML for web designers who are not familiar with CSS in web design.”

You will create a new file and add some styling, images, and even a menu to the page using the features found in Dreamweaver CS3.

Getting started with Dreamweaver CS3 - tutorial

I just came across this great tutorial for the absolute beginner just starting with Dreamweaver. The tutorial is written for Dreamweaver CS3, and shows you how to create a new website using the tools. The tutorial takes you from creating a site definition right to uploading the site to your server.

It assumes that you have a host, a domain, planned, and designed the site’s layout. If you don’t know how to do those things, the tutorial links out to other how-tos to show you how to do that as well.

These tutorials take advantage of the WYSIWYG tools in Dreamweaver, so you don’t need to worry about coding your site.

It also offers some special projects at the end if you want to go further with your site, after uploading it.

Using Spry in Dreamweaver CS3 - adding a Menu Bar

CreativePro.com has a good tutorial by David Sawyer McFarland that introduces you to using the new Spry widgets in Dreamweaver CS3. They say:

Adding a Spry Menu Bar to a Web page is a three-step process. First, you tell Dreamweaver to insert the menu bar, which adds a JavaScript file and a CSS file to your site and adds HTML to create a “starter menu” of links. Second, you edit the menu Dreamweaver inserted by changing the text of the menu buttons, and adding new menu options and links to other pages on your site. Finally, you modify the CSS that Dreamweaver supplies to match the look of your site.

This tutorial will take you step-by-step through adding and modifying a Spry Menu Bar.

If you’re new to Dreamweaver, I have just the answer you are looking for to get up to speed fast. I have created a series of interactive Adobe Captivate simulations that will help you get started with Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. These simulate the Dreamweaver web development environment and require you to participate as if you were actually in Dreamweaver.
